Why Didn't The Victims Attend The Dance? They Had Plenty Of Time. Strange Facts About The Victims Trip To Town. For the Victims to be where they are said to have been at the times they were said to have been there, here are the speeds and times at which they would need to have travelled:

The Carroll's were travelling at about 12 mph and as they did not pass the victims again the victims must have travelled at least at 12 mph which should have gotten them to the hall at about 08:43pm.

Add to this the fact that Florence Lowe left Gatton at 08:40 pm and did not pass the victims indicating they were already in town somewhere. They apparently were not sighted by anyone in town except when they passed the hall without even stopping. This indicates they had at least a full 19 minutes before the lights were put out. And 24 minutes before they were seen passing the hall.

Did they loiter somewhere until they saw the lights at the hall were being put out, or did they go somewhere else in town, maybe to the doctors, as Nora was ill or the church for help?

It appears as if they wanted to be seen in town albeit only briefly, attempting to attend the dance,
